Die paar leuchtenden Jahre der Mascha Kaléko - Lesung mit Musik

In the organizer's words:

"This Mascha Kaléko is a very young poet of the big city, whose mixture of sentiment and cynicism is reminiscent of Heine. This kind does not occur too often in modern German poetry." When these lines by Hermann Hesse appeared in an exile magazine in 1936, the National Socialists had long since imposed a professional ban on the poet. At the beginning of the 1930s, she had caused a sensation in Berlin, first in newspapers and on reading stages, then with the volume "Das lyrische Stenogrammheft". But Kaléko's "few bright years" ended quickly: in 1938, she managed to flee to the USA. More than 17 years would pass before she set foot on German soil again. In 1956, the year of Heine, she wrote the poem "Deutschland, ein Kindermärchen", in which she celebrates Heine but also takes a skeptical view of post-war society.

To mark International Women's Day and the 50th anniversary of Mascha Kaléko's death, actress Christiane Lemm and journalist Olaf Cless paint a portrait of the poet in poems and prose texts. The basis is the new selection "Ich tat die Augen auf und sah das Helle", published by Daniel Kehlmann at dtv.
