State elections will be held in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg in September 2024. With the AfD, a party classified by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as "definitely right-wing extremist" could become the strongest force in all three federal states, while historical revisionist statements on Nazi crimes and attacks on memorial sites are part of everyday life in many places.
