Belle's father gets lost in the forest in an enchanted castle, which seems to be deserted despite the table setting. When he breaks off a rose for his daughter, a terrifying creature appears, half human, half animal. It is the beast. Only on the condition that he brings his daughter to him does the Beast let her father live and leave the castle. Belle keeps her promise to protect her father and moves into the enchanted castle. She soon realizes that behind the monster's frightening exterior lies a noble creature and an eerily beautiful secret: a cruel curse that only Belle's love and courage can break.

"Beauty and the Beast" is a traditional folk tale from France ("La Belle et la Bête"). Researchers have discovered that the material is most likely between 2500 and 6000 years old and has references to the literature of Roman antiquity and the Old Testament of the Bible. The fairy tale of Belle is one of the most beautiful stories about a young woman's search for identity, about the power of love - and reminds us that it is always worth taking a look behind the façade. "Beauty and the Beast" is staged by the Rheinisches Landestheater Neuss as a fairy tale in the run-up to Christmas. Other adaptations are also available as full-length feature films, TV series, musicals and animated films.
