FRG 2024, documentary film, 82 min, FSK 0
Director: Filippa Bauer
Language: OmU (German, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, Macedonian with German subtitles)
As children, the protagonists spent their summer vacations playing on building sites in what was then Yugoslavia; today, their parents' dreams of a house realized there have passed into their hands. Left in the shell, carefully furnished or now threatened by decay, the houses are mostly uninhabited and bear witness to the repeatedly postponed return from Germany, which was planned as a "made family" and was to take place together with all family members.
The film focuses on these places in quiet shots that have a special beauty and places the five likeable protagonists in relation to them. Having grown up in Germany as the children of so-called guest workers, their dreams differ from those of their parents. The question of the houses they will inherit brings together their discussions about finding identity and living with more than one home.
Filippa Bauer will be with us for a director's talk on April 8.
