1974: A young woman leaves her apartment to go to a private dance. Four days later, she turns herself in to the police and claims to have shot a journalist. She feels no remorse. What has happened to Katharina Blum in the past four days? What led to this dramatic development?
In the form of protocols, reports and witness statements, Heinrich Böll reconstructs the exemplary story of an escalation of violence in his famous story. Katharina Blum becomes the focus of the tabloid press because she impulsively falls in love with a wanted terror suspect and helps him to escape. Unprotected, she finds herself exposed to a campaign that stops at nothing and spreads alternative truths at will.

In DIE VERLORENE EHRE DER KATHARINA BLUM, Heinrich Böll paints a picture of a deeply patriarchal society in which populism and sexism interact destructively. Fifty years after the story was published, director Bastian Kraft brings the text to the stage of Depot 1 with an all-female ensemble.
