"The Magic Flute"
The popular opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
With Mozart's "The Magic Flute", the Düsseldorfer Marionetten-Theater presents a classic highlight at the end of the season from June 4 to July 5, 2025.
The story: Prince Tamino is sent by the Queen of the Night to free her daughter Pamina from the hands of the sun priest Sarastro. Under the guidance of three enigmatic ladies and three boys, Tamino succeeds in entering Sarastro's kingdom together with the merry birdcatcher Papageno. Tamino realizes that Sarastro is by no means a villain and undergoes tests in order to become an initiate himself and win Pamina's hand...
The opera classic is a love story with humanistic ideals, magical transformations and, despite the solemn trials, full of comic moments.
The Düsseldorfer Marionetten-Theater has staged "The Magic Flute" in the spirit of the librettist and director of the world premiere, Emanuel Schikaneder, who offered spectacular magic theater. What is often an elaborate and laborious undertaking in opera houses is the essence of marionette theater - weightlessness and the magic of transformation.
