Machine-like booming sounds permeate the empty stage space. Two bodies wind calmly and fluidly around their own axis as if guided by the wind, suddenly filled with staccato-like impulses. Again and again they find each other. Through a system that is not visible from the outside, they seem to connect, move in harmony with each other, communicate in a non-human way.

In TERRANOVA | hidden link , choreographer Diego Tortelli explores the organic interaction systems of mycelia, what science also calls "real mushrooms", together with his dramaturge Miria Wurm. Fascinated by non-verbal communication in general, he sees mycelia as a vital interface that connects all different types of life and also has the power to change our environment as well as our inner body system. Among other things, they can form a network of small, branched tubes underground to help plants communicate with each other over enormous distances and supply them with nutrients. On the other hand, they also have the ability to immerse themselves in the tissue of their host in order to change or even manipulate it from the inside. Tortelli transfers these principles, which have not yet been fully decoded by science, to the choreographic interplay between two dancers, allowing them to enter into a tense interplay of symbiosis and antibiosis with their environment.

Since 2018, Diego Tortelli and Miria Wurm have been developing innovative dance projects together in Munich, which are defined by a unique combination of precise formal language and scientific theory. At the heart of this is Tortelli's choreographic style, which oscillates between classical elements and contemporary dance, breaking down the body into individual segments and joints in order to rearrange them in surprising ways. This peculiar repertoire of movement, which is combined with elaborate lighting design to create large images, repeatedly succeeds in making complex scientific contexts tangible to the senses.
