Dimensions of Dance. Part 5

PICK OF THE DAY Shows & Performances
In the organizer's words:

The fifth edition of the popular "Dimensions of Dance" series will feature three world premieres this year: The ballet evening unites the different and fascinating choreographic styles of Andonis Foniadakis, Douglas Lee and Young Soon Hue. For the first time, the ballet will be accompanied live by the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra in "Dimensions of Dance".

World stars of the dance scene in Augsburg!
This could be the motto of the "Dimensions of Dance" series, which has been very successful since 2017. In the past, many renowned choreographers have been won over to create new pieces for the company. Three of these world stars have once again answered the call of Augsburg Ballet Director Ricardo Fernando in 2024: Andonis Foniadakis, Douglas Lee and Young Soon Hue.

The program kicks off with Andonis Foniadakis' latest choreography entitled "Bonds", an excerpt from which could already be seen at this year's International Ballet and Dance Gala. At first glance, his style appears chaotic, but, as with geographical mapping, it is based on exact mathematical precision. Like a whirlwind, the choreography to music by Ludovico Einaudi ("Golden Butterflies. Day 5", "Petricor" & "Experience") sweeps everything off the stage, washing over the audience and leaving behind a kaleidoscope of images and sensations.

In contrast, "Automata" by Douglas Lee focuses on simplicity. Critically acclaimed Lee places a duo of automaton people at the center of his choreography. The puppet-like figures are animated to the music of Antonio Vivaldi (Mandolin Concerto in C major) and thus explore the relationship between man and machine in a new way. Always with a refreshing wink.

"Under The Trees' Voices" by the renowned Korean choreographer Young Soon Hue follows at the end. A great admirer of the composer and conductor Ezio Bosso (1971-2020), she has created a tribute to the meastro. She brings Bosso's music, his words and his personality back to life with speed and sensitivity through her narrative dance language.

The result is a three-part ballet evening in a class of its own that brings a wide range of contemporary dance styles to life. Another special feature: this time the ballet will be accompanied by the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Ivan Demidov. Together with the ballet company, they do a fantastic job.
Let yourself be carried away into this wonderful world of dance!
