10 hours of theater about the problems of people who lived 2500 years ago? Who work their way through Prometheus, Achilles, Cassandra, Electra and Odysseus? The power of the gods, the curse of the Atrides, unresolvable conflicts, never-ending wars. But the not-so-ancient Greeks no longer want to be victims of fate, to be determined by external pressures that constantly and inevitably befall them. They come into conflict with the gods and the world of myths and begin to quarrel, even if every way out initially seems to be the wrong one, guilt-ridden and fatal. People have other problems today, don't they? But the world's first democracy, which emerged in Athens in the 5th century BC, dealt with these issues in the theater, which was both a popular festival and a popular assembly: a cult of collective emancipation. In tragedies, comedies and satyr plays, the Athenian audience of the time appropriated the ancient material, making it tangible and surmountable. Director Christopher Rüping and the actors of the Kammerspiele now revisit the characters, texts and political circumstances of Greek drama and approach the questions and conflicts of antiquity from a contemporary perspective.
