A cruise ship as a micro-universe of the contemporary capitalist world: on the one hand, opulence is nonchalantly displayed and consumed without restraint, while at the same time an almost invisible group of people clean, cook, wash and entertain the clientele under extreme conditions. But something is going on - in the laundry room on one of the lower decks, the workers are celebrating a party of the exploited that will cause the cruiser to burst and shake up the conventional rules.
In their new HAU production, Moldovan theater maker Nicoleta Esinencu and teatru-spălătorie look back at history: at social movements that have emerged time and again, in which people discuss in a variety of ways how a free and just world can be achieved. With powerful text and sound collages, "Dirty Laundry. The TrashOpera" makes a fairer future imaginable.
Opening production of the HAU festival "Every Day.Feminist struggles in post-socialist Europe" (21.-29.3.2025 / HAU Hebbel am Ufer).
