Ditzner – Sharp Release Konzert

Erwin Ditzner (born 1960) is a formative figure in the Rhine-Neckar music scene and a key figure in contemporary jazz and free improvisation. With his unmistakable drumming, which combines groove, sound research and spontaneous interaction, he has helped shape numerous projects - from experimental formations to cross-genre collaborations. Long associated with the Enjoy Jazz Festival, he invites outstanding musicians to engage in creative dialog on the stage of the Alte Feuerwache Mannheim as part of "Ditzner's Carte Blanche", which festival director Rainer Kern makes possible every year.

Elliott Sharp (born 1951) is an icon of the New York avant-garde scene. As a guitarist, composer and multi-instrumentalist, he has been exploring radical sound concepts between jazz, rock, noise and minimalism since the 1970s. With his unmistakable playing style, characterized by microtonal structures and experimental sound aesthetics, he has collaborated with artists such as John Zorn, Zeena Parkins and Sonny Sharrock.

The live album "Ditzner Sharp - Live at Enjoy Jazz Festival 2024" documents the first encounter between Erwin Ditzner and Elliott Sharp on stage since 2015, when Ditzner invited Sharp for a trio project as part of his Carte Blanche. The renewed collaboration in 2024 was a session that was as intense as it was electrifying - a sonically multi-layered dialog between rhythmic sophistication and avant-garde sound research.
