DIY Saturdays mit Urban Trash Transformation: Trashing Art! | Ruhrtriennale 2025

Urban Trash Transformation combines upcycling, sustainability and urban art into a creative movement. What we often carelessly dispose of in everyday life becomes a valuable resource here: plastic, fabric remnants and found objects are turned into new impulses and impressive works of art through collaborative design.

In her work, Dortmund artist Hülya Özkan makes the discarded visible - and invites urban society to participate. For the Ruhrtriennale, she is developing a participatory work of art in Wunderland that merges art production and social interaction. After a joint walk through the Westpark, during which materials are collected, the creative process begins on site: people build, spray and design - not alone, but side by side with many others.

The result is not only a large-scale mobile under the water tower - raw, bright and lively - but also many small individual objects. Each participant can create their own piece, which is understood as part of the whole: a symbol of how many individual contributions together form a collective work of art.

A visible sign of art that begins outside, grows in the hands of many and returns to the public space as a collective work.
