DOMINIK MATZKA

An old soul who burns for the new. An experimenter who appreciates detours just as much as straight lines. That's probably what you could call the musician Dominik Matzka.

Lyrical lyrics, idiosyncratic melodies, intimate to spherical arrangements - these are the main ingredients of his songs. While Dominik often limits himself live to a felt-covered piano, his voice and a few sonic extras, his studio productions sometimes shimmer like a school of colorful fish. In the German-speaking scene, his songs are most likely to be associated with Max Prosa and Gisbert zu Knyphausen.

Dominik initiated RAUM FÜR POLITISCHE GEFÜHLE in 2024 out of his preoccupation with democratic culture and social division. This is about emotional work in groups with reference to current political issues.

Dominik Matzka currently lives in Freiburg. In addition to his work as a singer-songwriter, film composer and space holder, he works as a lecturer in theory at the Freiburg Music School.
