Dominik Raab Quartet feat. Tony Lakatos, Billy Test & Doug Weiss

With Mocambo Affair, Dominik Raab presents his second album, once again recorded with his all-star band consisting of Billy Test on piano, saxophonist Tony Lakatos and Doug Weiss on bass. Like the quartet's first album, Mocambo Aff air consists exclusively of Raab's own compositions, with the new pieces sounding even more gripping and passionate. Lakatos, Test, Weiss and Raab complement each other with somnambulistic confidence to form a virtuosic, incredibly well-rehearsed team that makes Raab's compositions shine.

The bandleader loves to observe. Everyday life is full of inspiration for his music, he even finds it in the supermarket. For example, when his favorite type of coffee, "Mocambo", first has to be taken out of a theft-proof cabinet. "If you're standing at the wrong checkout," says Raab, "you can literally feel the pressure from the people in line. The sales assistant has to fetch the coffee from another checkout, which leads to congestion and time pressure in the queue. I have processed this mixture of aggression, despair and oppressive helplessness in a humorous and melancholy way in the title track of my new album."
