The shift to the right in Germany and around the world can no longer be overlooked. It seems that authoritarian forces are spreading everywhere. Donald Trump is abolishing entire branches of the US government with the help of his DOGE "minister" Elon Musk, and Javier Milei wants to dismantle the bureaucracy in Argentina with a chainsaw. These people are united by a common ideology: libertarianism. Minimal state with maximum freedom! Taxes are robbery! Sociologist Andreas Kemper conducts research in this area, has already written about "totalitarian-capitalist private cities in Honduras" and has observed worrying developments in libertarian circles. So what exactly constitutes this libertarianism and why can it become dangerous? What happens when unbridled freedom breaks the social contract? And who should this freedom apply to anyway?
