Trombonist Yannick-Maurice Groß will enchant us with an impressive performance. He presents:
'In the distorting mirror room. Ricercar for tenor trombone in eight scenes' (2008) by Wolfgang Florey
Der Verzerrspiegelraum' is a 22-minute work that explores the tonal and technical possibilities of the tenor trombone. The piece is divided into eight scenes, ranging from lyrical passages to virtuoso, rhythmically complex sections. It combines traditional elements of the ricercar style with modern tonal language and places high demands on the performer's technique and expression.

Wolfgang Florey, born in Salzburg in 1945, is a renowned Austrian composer. With around 80 stage scores and over 40 radio play productions, he has had a significant influence on the German-speaking musical landscape. His works are characterized by profound musical-aesthetic considerations inspired by his experiences as an instrumentalist.
Let yourself be captivated by the fascinating sounds of the tenor trombone in eight unique scenes. Yannik Groß will bring Florey's complex work to life and take us on a sonic journey through the 'distorting mirror space'.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Yannick-Maurice Groß (*2003) began his musical career at the age of six with percussion lessons from Alois Geiger. Just two years later, he also took trombone lessons with Sebastian Rathmann at the Waldstetten Music School. In 2014, the two moved to the Fellbach music school together, where Yannick-Maurice Groß was accepted into the advanced class. In addition to the trombone, he initially took organ lessons with Manuela Essig before moving to DKM Ulrich Klemm in Schorndorf in 2014.
His deep understanding of music is characterized by thinking, feeling and immersing himself in many genres. This is reflected, among other things, in the design of a wide variety of projects as a trombonist or conductor, in arranging and composing for a wide variety of ensembles, in which he often actively participates himself.
Yannick-Maurice Groß is passionate about actively shaping, developing and implementing artistic projects. He is deputy chairman of the 'Förderverein für Kirche, Kunst und Kultur e.V.' (Association for the Promotion of Church, Art and Culture) for the promotion of music in the Schwäbisch Gmünd area and co-founder and academy director of the 'Sommerakademie für Kammermusik Süddeutschland' (Summer Academy for Chamber Music in Southern Germany). He also enriches various jazz combos, wind ensembles and chamber music ensembles with his trombone. He works as an organist and church musician in numerous parishes in the Ostalb deanery and the diocese of Würzburg. In 2024, he was appointed music director of the 'Orchesterinitiative Opus 8'.
As a trombonist, Yannick-Maurice Groß has won several first prizes in the national 'Jugend musiziert' competition, the state 'Jugend jazzt' competition and a sponsorship award in the 'Jugend komponiert' competition. In 2019, he won the composition prize at the 20th national 'Schulen musizieren' competition, in 2024 he was a finalist with the trombone at the 4th International Artists Competition in Vienna and was awarded second prize at the 1st Leman Lake International Winds Competition.
Since October 2021, Yannick-Maurice Groß has been studying trombone with Prof. Andreas Kraft at the University of Music in Würzburg. Master classes with Prof. Henning Wiegräbe, Prof. Christian Sprenger, Prof. Louise Pollock, Abbie Conant and György Gyivicsan, among others, complete his musical education.
Regular projects and concerts take him throughout southern Germany and complement his versatile work, which has received additional recognition through radio productions with SWR and BR Klassik.
