"Realistic painting is a language - a visual language capable of expressing thoughts, ideas, opinions, values, and especially our feelings, passions, dreams and fantasies - all the facets of being human ...
... just like great literature and poetry, except that it is unique from the hundreds of spoken and written languages in one respect : it is a global language, understandable to everyone ... a 'humanifesto' that allows people of the past, present and future to communicate with each other.
Someone once said to me, why waste your time with realistic painting? It's all been done before at some point. You could just as well say: "Why waste your time writing? Everything has already been written about once. There's nothing more to tell ..."
It's about 'being human'. What moves / excites a person? What touches the soul most directly?
When a person dreams at night - the possible and the impossible - he sees this in realistic images and not in abstract forms. That is why I believe that realism has the most direct access to the human soul. The debate between the proponents of modern painting and realism is comparable to that between classical music and jazz, as it is between classical literature and Dadaism. I paint special moments, memories, dreams, desires, fantasies - emotionally stirring pictures. Realistic painting is one of the best ways for me to express the many facets of 'being human'. It is a global language. Technically, I am fascinated by the 'fine colorfulness' in everything, which I try to capture by means of multi-layer glaze painting ... "
