You can almost breathe the smoky air of the steelmakers, sense the blast furnace tapping, see the glowing red sky. No idyllic local painting with birch avenues or romantic castles. Coal and steel and the inland port, that is Dorothee Impelmann's home"

These words from the opening of the 2014 exhibition at the Museum der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt in Duisburg by art historian Dr. Cornelia Garwer-Schier also capture the essence of the current exhibition " - alles im Fluss - " at Galerie 149 in Bremerhaven. Connected by the industrial views of the container port with the largest inland port in Europe in Duisburg, the ships on the sea and river or the waters of the North Sea and the Rhine.

At a time when the international exchange of goods and ideas is essential, containers and ships are at the heart of this movement. These seemingly simple but ingenious inventions have revolutionized the way we transport goods.

Standardized containers allow goods to be shipped efficiently and safely across the world's oceans, while ships, built from robust steel, are the tireless means of transport that connect our global markets. Containers, ships and steel are not only material objects, but also symbols of the ceaseless flow of ideas, cultures and goods in our globalized world. What role will steel play in the shipping of the future?

The people who work in these industries - from steelworkers, logisticians, drivers, from the dock workers who load containers to the captains who steer the ships - everyone contributes to keeping everything flowing.

The transformation of the original motif into the language of art - into a pictorial reality of its own - is determined in a creative process by the clash of the accidental and the planned. The flow of colors is like the flow of change in the district and the industry.
