A musical fusion of cultures and genres

The band DRAGONflies invites you to a very special concert. The international band promises a unique musical experience that reflects the diversity and creativity of Leipzig's music scene in an impressive way.

A journey through the world of music
The band DRAGONflies was founded in Leipzig in 2023 and is an extraordinary ensemble of six jazz musicians and an opera singer. With a wide-ranging repertoire, the group combines seemingly incompatible musical genres: from opera, operetta and classical musicals to jazz, pop, rock and traditional Bulgarian folk music. The latter plays a special role in the band's current project, which is inspired by singer Marta Yaneva's homeland. These musical influences are reinterpreted through the original arrangements by pianist and band co-founder Paul Foulkes, creating a sound experience that sheds a completely new light on familiar melodies.

An intercultural experience
With its international line-up, DRAGONflies stands for cultural exchange and intercultural understanding. The musicians from Great Britain, the USA, Germany, Guatemala, Australia, Israel and Bulgaria not only contribute their musical backgrounds, but also their personal stories. The creative combination of instruments such as piano, violin, cello, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, bass guitar and drums as well as the powerful voice of opera singer Marta Yaneva offer the audience an exciting change of perspective on familiar and new pieces.

Diversity as inspiration
Leipzig, with its lively music and cultural scene, offers the ideal stage for the cross-genre concept of the DRAGONflies. The band appeals to a wide audience: From fans of experimental sounds and cross-genre music to the international expat community as well as the Bulgarian community in Leipzig and the region. The band's upcoming projects for the year 2025 will therefore be realized in cooperation with the Bulgarian Cultural Association "Pencho Slavejkov" e.V.

Save the Date: DRAGONflies live on 08.02.2025
The concert on February 8, 2025 is the perfect foretaste of the premiere of their new project in Leipzig's Peterskirche in September 2025. Special guest of the concert is the English musical singer and actor Tom Bailey. Tom has lived in Leipzig since 2007. He is an active member of the Thuringian band Project Unplugged and has been touring Germany with the band for 7 years.

Paul Foulkes (arrangements & piano), Marta Yaneva (vocals), Tom Bailey (vocals), Matthew Lane (bass guitar), Corey Lareau (clarinet & saxophones), William Weil (cello), Manuel Toc (violin & guitar) and Tom Friedrich (drums) await you on 08.02.2025 at 19:00 at Neues Schauspiel Leipzig Lützner Straße 29, 04177 Leipzig. The audience can look forward to an unforgettable mixture of jazz, classical music and Bulgarian influences.
