Ein Abriss! – Was bisher geschehen sein wird

Theater has been an appointment for thousands of years. In the theater, any reality can be asserted and everyone accepts it. But what happens when the reality to be asserted reaches its limits? What if the theater space itself restricts fictional freedom?

The inclusive collective i can be your translator (icbyt) and Schauspiel Dortmund have been working together for two years. During this time, the theater has grown in terms of structural and artistic challenges and insights. Before the Schauspielhaus is demolished and relocated to an alternative venue, probably in late summer 2025, icbyt and actors from the Schauspiel ensemble will perform together for the last time on this stage, which has been in existence for almost 60 years. They ask what the present and the theater mean to them, which spaces and conventions need to be torn down in order to create the long-needed transformation, to make room for the new and for all those who have neither been able nor allowed to enter the space. Together with the audience on stage, stage-on-stage, they merge into an organism that displaces, outgrows and breaks boundaries. We celebrate the end and create a fantastic speculation about the municipal theater of the future - including reality.
