A man of his class
based on the novel by Christian Baron
in a stage adaptation by Christian Hanisch and Johann Christoph Awe
A Man of His Class is the autobiographical debut novel by Christian Baron. In it, he tells the story of his West German childhood in the 1990s: Alcoholic and violent father. Depressive mother.
Growing up between fear and small moments of happiness. Between poverty and hope. Between cancer and the Kelly Family. Where a portion of chips means the world and a wrong word means the next punch in the face. Where fairies can be salvation and Cinderella brings disaster.
It is the story of a "son of a king" who becomes a "class traitor". A class that he will not let go of for the rest of his life. The production tells the story of people whose fate is barely mentioned in the media and politics.
The film adaptation of the novel can currently be seen in the ARD Mediathek.
