Ein Sommernachtstraum

Hermia, in love with Lysander, is given an ultimatum: Either she marries Demetrius, chosen by her father Egeus, or she chooses between life as a nun and death.
Lysander and Hermia decide to flee secretly through the neighboring forest and entrust their plan to their friend Helena. Once loved by Demetrius, Helena reveals their escape to him and together they pursue the lovers into the dark summer night. Meanwhile, a group of Athenian craftsmen are also using the forest as a discreet place to rehearse a play for the forthcoming wedding of the Athenian ruling couple. And then there are the fairies...

In "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Shakespeare not only brings together life at the Athenian court and that of the craftsmen. He interweaves the conventions of the Elizabethan age with the fairy and goblin stories of England and the myths and stories of ancient Greece. As darkness falls, the forest becomes a place of magic and enchantment, where Oberon and Titania, the ruling couple of the fairies, meet that night and live out their relationship dispute. Without further ado, the goblin Puck casts a spell on Titania, the lovers and the craftsmen on Oberon's behalf, causing the already confused entanglements of love and desire to escalate completely.

In "A Midsummer Night's Dream", the question of how comparison with others, self-presentation and self-love shape relationships with others and love relationships in particular does not just arise with the magic. How do the characters see themselves and how far do they go to be seen by the person they love? And what is love in the age of economic reason?

Shakespeare's most famous comedy, both romantic and abysmal, will be staged by Ulrich Greb partly in the castle theater and partly in the castle park in the special magic of the "blue hour". For the first time, the acting ensemble will perform together with players from the Young STM in a production.

The play will take place in the castle and in the park. We recommend warm and weatherproof clothing. If bad weather occurs during the performance, we will endeavor to continue it in the interest of our audience and offer an indoor version.

Due to the changing sunset, the starting times of the individual performances vary.
