At the center of this new Christmas story is the hard-hearted Christmas tree seller Hilde Knauser from Braunschweig, who has become a workaholic. Her purpose in life is to earn as much money as possible by selling Christmas trees at the Old Town Market. Hilde finds Christmas annoying every year, as it means the end of her sales season. She hates the holidays. The people around her, as well as her grown-up son Michael, have resigned themselves, and even her old business partner Friedel Raffke initially fails to soften Hilde's cold heart, until several "magical" meetings take place at the Christmas tree stand. Encounters with her family doctor, a pensioner and a fundraiser finally lead to Hilde Knauser's eyes and heart being opened, and she realizes what really matters in life... Will Christmas still be a celebration of humanity and charity for Hilde and her family?
