Our series "Another Class - Literary Voices from the Working Class" continues on May 5. Kamala Dubrovnik and Hank Zerbolesch will be our guests on the first of three dates in 2025. "Another Class" will be moderated by Änne Seidel and curated by Kevin Kader.
About the series:
The event series "Another Class" asks whether a dominant social milieu exists within the literary scene. Do the often academically influenced actors have a high sensitivity for discriminatory language, but a less strong sensor for class-related marginalization and discrimination? The series of events aims to explore this on three evenings, each with three authors who, in addition to high literary quality, also have a biographical connection to the topic.
About the authors:
Kamala Dubrovnik is a freelance artist and author based in Cologne. In her artistic work, she encounters us as a performer, vocal artist, but also as a director, and thus tries to create a holistic approach to literature and its staging. Since last year, she has also been releasing music together with Max Emil (Illusions, Spotify 2024) and will be releasing an EP this year (fall), which moves between rap, soul and experimental spheres. In her lyrics, she deals with existential themes - sex, death and politics - and creates an ironic and sensual level.
Hank Zerbolesch, born in Düsseldorf in 1981, has lived in Wuppertal since 2004. His time at school was as short as possible, he did not study. He earned money as a geriatric nurse, as an event technician and in many other ways. He has been writing novels, radio plays and short stories since 2014. In 2025 he received the NOVUM OPUS scholarship. In 2024, his last novel "Gorbach" was published by Steidl Verlag. In the same year, he was awarded the Von der Heydt Culture Prize and spent several months working in Los Angeles and Thessaloniki.
