About the event
In 2016, Hamburg's arthouse and arthouse cinemas launched the most extraordinary cinema tour in Germany and it was absolutely gigantic! EINE STADT SIEHT EINEN FILM (A CITY SEES A FILM) was born out of the idea of presenting the special cinemas of our city to everyone in Hamburg on one long day, just like theaters and museums. All 15 auditoriums were sold out at the time and we were intoxicated by the sense of community, the love for Hamburg as a film city and everyone's favorite place: the cinema. It was immediately clear that we wanted to do it again, and now the annual cinema event is celebrating its first anniversary.

For the anniversary edition, we are presenting Hermine Huntgeburth's biopic about Hamburg's music icon Udo Lindenberg, a film with cult potential, accompanied by a lavish, detailed supporting program.

From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. - for an entire Sunday - 18 Hamburg cinemas will be showing LINDENBERG! DO YOUR THING. The traditional centerpiece of the joint cinema event is the film team's tour of the venues with on-site audience discussions. As a special bonus for all fans, the filming location tour to the original locations of the film will be included again this year. The film event will also feature exhibitions and installations, a showcase of Hermine Huntgeburth's work and an after-show party.

LINDENBERG! MACH DEIN DING is the filmography of the legendary German rocker Udo Lindenberg, from his childhood in the Westphalian province to his first music engagements as a drummer in Libya and the turbulent beginnings of his singing career in Hamburg in the 1970s.

Financial problems, heartache and repeated alcohol and drug excesses: Hermine Huntgeburth tells the rocky road to becoming an exceptional musician authentically and movingly as a journey between dreams and self-doubt, rock 'n' roll and intoxication. Jan Bülow's captivating performance portrays the young Lindenberg as an uptight, shy charismatic with a rocker gene, whose idiosyncrasy is already inscribed in him at a young age. From the cramped and stuffy single-family apartment in Gronau to the dazzling and boozy red-light district of the Reeperbahn: the detailed set design, the elaborate costume and make-up design and the atmospheric choice of music bring the different time periods in the film to life. Thanks to a nuanced genre mix of biopic, historical and music film, LINDENBERG! MACH DEIN DING is an emotional movie experience for both Lindenberg fans and those who want to become one.
