Einfach Machen! She-Punks von 1977 bis heute

Punk is a promise - of rebellion and self-empowerment! When it conquered the whole world from England and the USA at the end of the 1970s, it suddenly needed neither training nor perfection to express itself musically in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. "Don't talk, do it!" is the motto. What counts is the idea and the courage to take to the stage. And this is especially true for the women in the scene.

Östro 430 formed in Düsseldorf, Mania D, later Malaria!, in West Berlin and Kleenex, later LiLiput, in Zurich. Their role models come from England and are called X-Ray Spex, The Slits, The Raincoats or Siouxsie Sioux. They wrote songs about female role clichés and philistinism, about machos and dogmatic feminists. It's about female desire and sexual self-determination. And always about conquering free spaces - within the male-dominated punk scene, but also in society as a whole.

"Just do it! She-Punks from 1977 to today" portrays female artists who are still performing on stage together, or are doing so again, 40 years later. As pioneers of German-speaking she-punk, Gudrun Gut, Beate Bartel, Bettina Köster, Sara Schär, Klaudia Schifferle, Martina Weith and Bettina Flörchinger share their experiences and stories. Despite the different sounds of the bands and without knowing it at the time, they were part of a female revolution in the music industry that had a lasting impact on subsequent female artists. A film about punk from a female perspective, feminism with a guitar riff and the incomparable attitude to life of the late 70s and early 80s.
