Christoph Schmitz-Scholemann's new translation shows just how entertaining and up-to-date the oldest and most famous novel in world literature still is today. His humorous scenic abridged version reveals the Odyssey's many echoes of the 21st century world - it is about experiences of war, catastrophic shipwrecks, love and jealousy, fully automated speedboats and an oath of peace between hostile citizens at the end. No wonder Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan is currently filming the Odyssey.
