When the megalomaniac multimillionaire Richard Carson tries to occupy the moon in order to secure the exclusive mining rights to the rare energy source Helium 3, young Mike becomes the last hope of mankind. The boy, who comes from a family of astronauts, actually only wanted to reconcile his father and grandfather, who have been at odds with each other for many years. His plan is to bring the two back together for NASA's new moon mission - in a race against the millionaire. However, through an entanglement of unfortunate events, he finds himself on a space shuttle to the moon with his grumpy grandfather and his girlfriend Amy. Now he has to rise above himself to stop Carson and get back to Earth safely.

"Once to the Moon and Back" is an entertaining and gripping spectacle that will captivate younger viewers in particular from the first to the last minute. But adults can also be carried away by the positive message of the film, in which children and adults work side by side for a good cause.

The German Film and Media Rating Board (FBW) awarded the animated film the rating "valuable".
