Einsteins Piano: Mathis Picard – solo piano

In the organizer's words:

The Space Between Breath is the name of a composition by pianist Mathis Picard. The New York-based Frenchman with Malagasy roots knows exactly how important the space between two breaths, or - in musical terms - two notes is. There are passages in his playing in which breathing plays a role. Mostly, however, Picard lives out his exuberant temperament and - as the title of another composition suggests - brings his inner child into dialog with his adult self.

The unspoiled nature that simply wants to play and the experience of a man who has already checked out everything at the piano comes through: the early stride piano styles, the colors of the French Impressionists, the formal language of classical music, the danciness of East African music, the soul of soul, the history of modern jazz piano.

Mathis Picard, who is now performing in the Einstein Piano series, first sat at the piano at the age of three. As a very young man, he then studied at the Juilliard School, where Kenny Barron was his mentor. He prepared his protégé for a career in which he would go on to play with Ron Carter, Lee Ritenour, Jason Moran and Wynton Marsalis. When Mathis Picard is not working as a sideman, he performs his solo program, brings his quartet The Elements or his Mathis Sound Orchestra to the stage.

The concert will take place at Einstein Kultur in Hall 4.
