Eläkeläiset are the "biggest humppa band in the world". They say so themselves - and who would disagree? In their native Finland, the "pensioners" have long been a cult institution whose albums regularly top the charts. But the band also has an impressively large and, above all, loyal fan base here in Germany. The number of their releases? Countless! Even a DVD was awarded gold in Finland.
Their first performance in Germany took place exactly 30 years ago - on March 2, 1996 at Juz Rostock. Reason enough to celebrate this anniversary in style!
A new album is also planned for 2026 - fans can look forward to it!
Now in their 33rd year, Eläkeläiset are bringing their unique blend of humppa and chaos back to the stages of Germany with "Humppaaxident II".

What actually is humppa?

Humppa is a type of Finnish polka that begins with a short, snappy drum intro and is perfect for polonaise and shuffle dances. Eläkeläiset claim that all rock, pop and other classics only sound really good as humppa versions.
Four crazy Finns, rarely sober, take well-known chart hits from rock, pop and metal and not only cover them, but "improve" them in polka style. The highlight: they sing exclusively in Finnish! The lyrics are only remotely related to the originals - they fill the gaps in the translation with Finnish swear words or simply "humppa".
They maltreat bass, accordion, drums and keyboards at breathtaking speed. Unusual instruments such as chainsaws, ninja stars, shotguns and batons are also used on stage.
The most popular game at the live shows: "What's the original name of that damn song again?"
For a little orientation: "Enter Sandman" is called "Soramonttuhumppa" and "Macarena" becomes "Panojenkka". "Humppa Hallelujaa", on the other hand, is instantly recognizable even to newcomers!
Unfortunately, not all record companies and originators share the opinion that everything sounds better in humppa style. This has already led to heated arguments - proof that there are plenty of people in the music industry without a sense of humor.
