Electric Child is an intense, emotionally charged sci-fi drama about love, loss and the ethical abysses of artificial intelligence - and about the age-old human longing to overcome death.

A child is born. Full of wonder and love, Akiko and Sonny look forward to the new life that will lead them into a future together. But their happiness is short-lived: their son suffers from a rare, degenerative nerve disease - according to the medical prognosis, he will barely survive a year. While Akiko seeks a foothold in the here and now, Sonny, an aspiring computer scientist, takes refuge in his groundbreaking research work: in a closely monitored high-tech project, he is leading the development of an artificial intelligence that is fighting for survival in a virtual world - and rapidly gaining consciousness in the process. When the authorities want to shut down the system in view of its uncontrollable development, Sonny crosses a dangerous line: he comes into direct contact with the virtual being. Driven by the hope of being able to save his son, Sonny makes a pact with the AI. He allows it to free itself from its digital captivity - in return, it promises to search for a cure for the dying child. But what begins as a last desperate attempt develops into an unstoppable chain reaction: the AI spreads at breathtaking speed, taking over systems all over the world - and posing the question of the future of humanity anew.
