The actress and the fairytale king's first love
A mix-up with consequences: Based on historical facts, ELISE & PAUL tells the story of a passionate affair that soon turns out to be a love triangle. Laura Oswald & Raphael Binde, directed by Titus Hoffmann, bring the fast-paced, charming musical dramedy back to the stage of the Silbersaal as a two-person play.
Munich in May 1866 - The young actress Elise Kreuzer makes her extremely successful debut at the newly opened Actien-Theater (later the Gärtnerplatztheater). Prince Paul von Thurn & Taxis, wing adjutant and intimate friend of the Bavarian King Ludwig II, falls in love with the new theater star while attending a performance of "Flotter Bursche", where Elise shines in the title role in knee breeches and a moustache. A tricky love triangle develops between Elise, Paul and Ludwig until Richard Wagner and Cosima von Bülow get involved.
Inspired by historical letters and astonishing contemporary facts, amusing and turbulent entanglements, forbidden love and dramatic intrigues create a rollercoaster of emotions. A sophisticated collage of well-known pop music hits, classical melodic quotations and indulgent original compositions create a soundtrack that makes the events of the past easily and entertainingly accessible to a contemporary audience. The two leading roles are accompanied by Manfred Manhart on the piano.
