With the exhibition "EMBODIMENT - Lviv National Academy of Arts (Ukraine)", the Museum im Kulturspeicher (MiK) is intensifying the city partnership between Würzburg and Lviv (Lemberg) in the area of cultural exchange. In cooperation with the renowned Lviv National Academy of Arts, the MiK is showing a total of 15 paintings by young Ukrainian artists from July 5 to November 2, 2025.
On display are works of art by students that were created during the war - in the silence of the emergency shelters, by torchlight or in the short breaks between air raid alarms. Each of these pictures is not only an artistic statement, but also an inner testimony to resilience, strength of spirit and a deep belief in the future.
The torso as a central element and art object
The works - each measuring 200 x 100 cm - all revolve around a central motif: the exploration of the human torso, reduced to a torso - without head, arms or legs. These fragmented body images symbolize both vulnerability and strength, completeness and fragmentation, destruction and inner integrity. This central idea is implemented in each of the exhibited pictures in an individual, artistic form of expression. For the students, it is a search for new meanings, ways of seeing and expressing themselves at a time when the human body and its presence have a special significance.
More than two thirds of the works have already been sold
All the works on display are available to purchase at a price of €400 each. Five of the 15 paintings from Lviv already found enthusiastic buyers during the vernissage. In the meantime, eleven works have already been sold. The proceeds will benefit the student community in Lviv and support their education under the difficult conditions of the war. Sold paintings will of course remain part of the presentation at MiK until the end of the show.

Würzburg and Lviv have been officially twinned since 2023, driven by the desire for concrete help and long-term cooperation. The exhibition at the MiK is a visible sign of this bond - both in cultural and human terms. It brings voices from Lviv to Würzburg, makes experiences visible and creates space for dialog, empathy and cultural learning.
Lviv National Academy of Arts: Since the war in Ukraine, Lviv has become an important center for the development of art and artistic education due to its seemingly far distance from the front line. The most talented students from all over the country come here to acquire knowledge and skills in the arts. An important aspect of education at the Lviv National Academy of Arts is learning in classrooms and workshops. This gives students the opportunity to collaborate with teaching staff and fellow students, experiment, express themselves and develop their own style. Despite the challenges of war, learning in a vibrant, collaborative environment allows for the strengthening of creativity. Founded in 1946, the academy was awarded "National" status in 2004 in recognition of its outstanding role in the arts and sciences. Today, over 1,000 young talents study in four faculties - from ceramics, glass and wood, fine arts and restoration to design, art history and management
