With "ENDSIEG", Nobel Prize winner and playwright Elfriede Jelinek responds directly to Donald Trump's renewed election victory in November 2024. Jelinek deals forcefully with the "chosen people" who blindly follow their God-chosen redeemer, the king, and worship him. It is precisely his hostility to democracy that drives the people into his arms and, once captured, never lets them go. Even when the king tries to override the law and decide on war and peace, they remain at his side. In dark, mocking images, Jelinek portrays an aristocracy that concerns us all in what she calls a "poem".
