ÉPIQUE ! (POUR YIKAKOU)

With Épique ! (Pour Yikakou), Nadia Beugré embarks on a journey to the village of her ancestors. She grew up here, in this magical place on the Ivory Coast. But the mysterious village no longer exists. The land was considered cursed. The journey is also a search for the grandmother who gave her her name: Gbahihonon, the "woman who says what she sees". A woman with a strong character and knowledge that protected the community from physical and mystical attacks. She was even able to predict the fate of newborn babies.

Épique ! highlights powerful women who shaped-or shattered-empires. One such figure is Dô-Kamissa, who, after being wronged by her brother, transformed herself into a buffalo and laid waste to the land. As a female oracle, she later orchestrated the marriage between King Naré Maghann Konaté and his daughter Sogolon Kandé. Their union gave rise to Soundiata Keita, who became the first ruler of the Kingdom of Mali and, in the 13th century, proclaimed the Manden Charter-considered the oldest declaration of fundamental human rights in the world.
