A young tractor driver is shot by an anti-collectivist farmer because he supports the Bolshevik agrarian reform. Against the backdrop of the collectivization measures in agriculture after the revolution, Alexander Dovzhenko develops a poetic image of a landscape and its people, embedded in the cycle of nature, of dying and becoming. A milestone in Soviet revolutionary cinema, which is also considered a precursor of the modern avant-garde due to its sensational formal design.
