Eric Alexander - star guest from New York on the saxophone

Eric Alexander is one of the best-known saxophonists in the world. He has been active on the jazz scene in New York since the late 1980s and has played with jazz masters such as McCoy Tyner, Harold Mabern, Pat Martino, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb and many more. As a leader, he has recorded over 20 records, and as a sideman he can be heard on over 300.

"The musicians I listened to in college still influence me today," says Alexander. "The influence of Monk, Dizzy, Sonny Stitt and others is crucial to my work. George Coleman shapes me with his harmonic approach, and I constantly listen to Coltrane to integrate the melodic elements into my playing."

Together with the trio of André Weiss, consisting of Giorgos Antonio on bass and Xaver Hellmeier on drums, a top-class quartet is formed that stands for the power and beauty of straight-ahead jazz.
