Erinnerung als höchste Form des Vergessens: Stadtteilführung Stelzenhaus mit der Gedenkstätte für Zwangsarbeit

As an industrial monument, the Stelzenhaus is also a place of remembrance of forced labor during the Nazi era. The company based there during the Second World War produced, among other things, the "Siegfried" anti-tank shield. Forced laborers and prisoners of war were used for production. As the center of Leipzig's industry, Plagwitz played an important role in the Nazi forced labor system. On the tour, in addition to insights into the history of companies such as Grohmann & Frosch, to which the Stelzenhaus belonged, we will focus in particular on the situation of the forced laborers. This tour focuses on the insecurity, suffering and death of forced laborers, but also on acts of humanity and various forms of resistance against involuntary exploitation and racial discrimination.

The exhibition Remembrance as the highest form of forgetting at Kunstraum IDEAL can be visited until April 30 on Wednesdays from 4-7 pm and Sundays from 3-7 pm.
