Eröffnung: Nadira Husain - Liquid Grids

In the organizer's words:

With Liquid Grids by Nadira Husain (*1980 in Paris), the Kunstmuseum is presenting an opulent mural in its display window on the museum façade for the first time. Accompanied by paintings, ceramics and other objects, the wall painting, which is over 15 meters long, merges motifs from Islamic art, European art history and Western consumer and popular culture. Husain's rich treasure trove of drawings reflects her biographical roots in European and Indian-Islamic traditions.

Husain masterfully weaves materials, techniques, figures and symbols from different cultures into an equal coexistence. This goes far beyond a playful examination of diversity in a globalized world. Through superimpositions and the transfer of motifs, Husain's work impressively demonstrates that the past and present of art are based on exchange, appropriation and transcultural interdependence - an experience that creates identity for many in our networked present.
