Eröffnung: The Voice of Women Is the Voice of Freedom

In the context of the exhibition platform "Fellow Travellers", the art project "The Voice of Women Is the Voice of Freedom" by Khanda Hameed and Nabaz Samad addresses the special role of women in the struggle to preserve the Kurdish language and identity.

Both women and the language are subject to a particular form of systematic oppression in the home country of the two Kurdish cultural practitioners and activists from northern Iraq, who are currently on a scholarship at the ZKM. In their installation, Khanda Hameed and Nabaz Samad emphasize the resilience of Kurdish women and with them the Kurdish language and show the structural connections between violence against women, the suppression of language, ecocide and cultural genocide in a diagram created performatively in front of the camera.
