Aurora Orchestra
Alena Baeva: violin
Nicholas Collon: Conductor
Ludwig van Beethoven: Violin concerto
Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5
An entire symphony played from memory by all the orchestral parts - the Aurora Orchestra's impressive trademark fits in perfectly with the festival motto "Everything ultra". The London musicians unfold an incredible intensity in Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony. At the height of the Stalinist terror, the composer wrote for his survival - an oppressive work that enters into a humanistic dialog with Beethoven's cheerful violin concerto. Alena Baeva makes her debut as a soloist at the Beethovenfest. The Kyrgyz violinist went through the famous Russian violin school, but develops a very personal and modern sound from this tradition. It is fitting that she has performed Beethoven's standard work with both 'classical' and 'historically informed' orchestras. Alongside Nicholas Collon and the Aurora Orchestra, we can expect an alert and agile interpretation that combines the best of both worlds.
