Esthers Spuren mit Benet Lehmann

In the organizer's words:

The story of Shoah survivor Esther Bejarano and the fight against right-wing extremism

Fancy an evening full of inspiration and important questions? Then come to our special reading with Benet Lehmann on the book "Esther's Traces" - together with Bengü Kocatürk-Schuster, Schulamith Weil and Kutlu Yurtseven.

This book is about Esther Bejarano, one of the last survivors of the Holocaust, who was deported to Auschwitz as a young woman in 1942 and had to play the accordion in the "Auschwitz Girls' Orchestra". She survived the Ravensbrück concentration camp and a death march - and spent her life fighting against oblivion. Her story is not only a reminder, but also a call to action.

Benet Lehmann has recorded her story and her thoughts on the culture of remembrance in many conversations with Esther.
These questions are more important today than ever:

  • What does the legacy of contemporary witnesses mean in a post-migrant society?
  • How do we relate cultures of remembrance to each other?
  • And above all: How can we fight racism and anti-Semitism through remembrance?
  • Why shouldn't you miss this?

At a time when there are fewer and fewer contemporary witnesses, we need to keep their stories alive. "Esther's Traces" reminds us that remembrance is not just about the past - it challenges us to take action. If we want a society in which people can live as equals regardless of origin, faith or history, we have to fight for it - now.

Kutlu Yurtseven, who toured Germany for years with Esther Bejarano as part of the legendary Microphone Mafia, will also be present on this evening.
We were able to invite Schulamith Weil, who, as the daughter of Shoah survivors, will contribute her perspectives and experiences. Together with Bengü Kocatürk-Schuster, Schulamith will show us how cultures of remembrance can be kept alive and why this is so important in order to change our society again.

We want an evening full of solidarity, respect and justice and want to stand up for a better world - just like Esther has always shown us.

Come along, be inspired and be part of the change!
You can also buy Benet's book on the evening and get it signed there and then :)
