As part of Europe May, the European cultural institutes in Munich are continuing their "European Film Classics" series with masterpieces from the 1970s. This decade was characterized by profound political and social changes in Europe: the collapse of the last dictatorships in Western Europe while those in the East of the continent continued to tighten their regimes, terrorism and armed struggle, the movements for women's and workers' rights, the rejection of social conventions, the search for an alternative lifestyle, an increased desire for cultural experimentation and the spread of television as the main means of communication.

Which films were shown in European cinemas during this period? How did they reflect the unrest and transformations of a decade that hovered between hope and disillusionment? On the program:
