European Music Collective, directed by Christoph Götzen
European Music Collective as guest at Schleuse Zwei: Free improvisation - between contemporary music, avant-garde and free jazz. With a young spirit and a collective approach.
On June 26, the European Music Collective presents the final concert of its two-part workshop series for contemporary and free improvisation at the Musikbar im Bilker Bunker. The aim is to redefine the boundaries of improvised music through a wide variety of influences, to expand them through a collective spirit and to make them visible to a wider audience.
Düsseldorf musician Christoph Götzen invites Selendis Sebastian Alexander Johnson from New York City to lead the ensemble together. Conducted improvisation, open scores, spontaneous and interactive interplay. Freedom and discourse, democracy and boundaries - all of this will be elaborated artistically beyond the concert evening and is intended to inspire both the ensemble and all participants to redefine their understanding of collectivism.
The EMC is an association of female musicians from all over the world who live and work in Europe. Its main goal is to create a platform and a community for improvised music that unites national identities in a collective, cross-border spirit.
In addition to various concerts, residencies and studio productions, the EMC also organizes educational events with the aim of bringing contemporary improvisation into the heart of society and making it accessible to a wider audience. In their two-part workshop series, the lecturers work together with the musicians on various concepts, approaches and forms of expression in order to expand their repertoire and, in particular, to inspire new musicians for this genre. Because improvisation knows no boundaries!
