Michelangelo is considered one of the most important artists of the Italian High Renaissance, as important as only Leonardo da Vinci. In order to bring the life and work of the genius Michelangelo closer to the contemporary art-interested public, the documentary Michelangelo: Love and Death takes a new look at the artist's biography on the basis of an exhibition at the National Gallery of London. It is not only about his relationship with his contemporary da Vinci, but also about his wide-ranging field of activity, which included painting, architecture and poetry as well as sculpture - in addition to his most famous work, the statue of David in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, he is also responsible for the ceiling painting of the Sistine Chapel and numerous buildings.
