Éxodos – Vidas take away. Szenische Lesung in spanischer Sprache mit deutschen Übertiteln

In the organizer's words:

People are on the run all over the world: The Meraki collective presents the fates of three refugees from different Latin American countries, based on documentary interviews. They all share the goal of trying to reach the USA. It is about despair and violence, but also about hope and confidence. And about what these stories have to do with us.

As part of a translation seminar, students of literary translation, Romance studies and transculturality at Heinrich Heine University were given the opportunity to create the surtitles for a play produced by Allerweltshaus Köln e.V. and staged by the Meraki collective in Cologne under the professional guidance and supervision of Franziska Muche, a professional translator specializing in Spanish-language theater. The play is entitled "ÉXODOS - Vidas take away (Exodus - Leben zum Mitnehmen)". This documentary theater piece is dedicated to the highly political topics of migration and flight, with a focus on Latin America. In cooperation with the NGO "Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes" in Tapachula (Mexico), the border region with Guatemala, discussions and interviews were held with people affected by flight. The actors will lend them their voices on stage.

In addition to the staged reading, the current situation in Mexico, the project itself and the translation and surtitling for the theater will also be discussed on this evening.
