They've been around since 1978, made music history, but still haven't had enough: the legendary Extrabreit. This year, the band led by Kai Havaii and Stefan Kleinkrieg will once again be performing numerous live shows - and anyone who knows them knows that they are a real event. The "Breiten" celebrate their songs, which refused to be pigeonholed back in the 1980s. Party bangers and cult songs such as "Flieger" and "Hurra, die Schule brennt" are contrasted with darkly sarcastic descriptions of the times, such as in "Polizisten" or "Der Präsident ist tot". In addition to the traditional hit package from four decades of band history, there are also songs from the current album "Auf Ex", on which the band proves that they are not just good at nostalgia. The five men deliver all of this at the club shows as part of the traditional Christmas lightning tour.

"Auf Ex", the studio album released in 2020, was recorded and produced at Backyard/Schallsucht-Studio Hagen - and Hagen plays an even bigger role here than it used to in the lyrics of Hamburg native Kai Havaii: "Where I was born / no hipsters are drawn / ... where you look there are broken dreams". The opener "Die Fressen aus dem Pott" was released as a single. "We will not die in beauty and we will never inherit it / We are the food from the pot, made by the good Lord ..." Self-reflective songs such as "Vorwärts durch die Zeit", where ageing as a band or as a private person is addressed as nonchalantly as this Havaii tone of voice allows, never become pompous, as the singer manages to feel both positive and negative at the same time and to transcribe this into a few four-to-the-floor lines.
