EYES ON JAPAN 2025: Tsugaru Lacquer Girl

This father-daughter story revolves around Japanese lacquer art from Aomori Prefecture. Miyako's father Seishiro runs a traditional lacquerware business. Miyako helps him out at work after finishing school and discovers her great passion in this traditional craft. Seishiro, however, still hopes that her brother will one day take over the family business. However, he has no interest in this and goes his own way: he wants to become a hairdresser. In order to fulfill her dream, Miyako has to break with existing traditions and stand up to her father's stubbornness...

On 08.01. with a lecture by lacquer artist Heri Gahbler. He studied at a technical school for lacquer art in Wajima (Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan), which is known for its lacquerware and exhibited in the former Museum of Lacquer Art in Münster, among other places, and taught the basics of the craft of lacquer art.
