As part of the program accompanying the current special exhibition "ResidenzWechsel. The Transfer of the Court from Wolfenbüttel to Braunschweig", the Palace Museum is offering a bicycle tour through the cultural landscape of Braunschweig on May 24th together with Pro Natur Braunschweig Südwest e. V. (management and info: Klaus Hermann, T. 0531 680 2122, e-mail: klaus.hermann@bs-heimat.de) and the Braunschweigischer Landesverein are offering a cycle tour through the cultural landscape between Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel.
Duke Rudolf August used to travel from Wolfenbüttel to Brunswick by coach on his private road. Lessing walked and often only got as far as the Grosses Weghaus. Then came motorization on completely new routes. Today, you can cycle back and forth between the residences at a leisurely pace through parks and on old military roads that have become country lanes.
On this bike tour, the former stately path between the old residence in Wolfenbüttel and the new residence in Braunschweig is discovered together and reopened with explanations on the history and development of the landscape between the residences.
The tour starts at the Palace Museum and ends around three hours later at Braunschweig Bürgerpark. Participation in the event is free of charge and at your own risk. A total distance of approx. 35 km is covered by bike. Participants must bring their own bike and provisions.
