Ismael de Barcelona and Thomas Monnerjahn present virtuoso guitar music in which gripping flamenco rhythms and fast-paced runs alternate with quiet passages and songful melodies. Stylistically, the two guitarists move mainly between the genres of flamenco and gypsy jazz. The duo's repertoire includes compositions by well-known representatives of the genre such as Paco de Lucia and Al Di Meola as well as original compositions and musical excursions into Argentinian tango and classical Spanish guitar music. In September 2024, the two released their first joint CD "Live at Brotfabrik Bühne Bonn".
Ismael de Barcelona studied classical guitar at the Liceus Conservatory in his home city of Barcelona. At the end of this very enriching phase in his life, he decided to deepen his knowledge of a music that has undoubtedly changed him, the son of an Andalusian woman, and that is flamenco. So he began to study and research flamenco guitar at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona, and thus began one of the great challenges in his training as a musician.
Thomas Monnerjahn is a winner of the Jugend jazzt competition. Trained as a jazz guitarist, he has come into intensive contact with a wide variety of musical styles, such as gipsy swing, French valse musette, Romanian and Balkan folklore and Spanish flamenco, at numerous concerts with musicians from all over the world, which constantly broaden his musical horizons.
